Winston Burton, Senior Pastor

Here is just a short introduction and biography of myself so we can become acquainted. I accepted the pastorate of First Baptist Church of Rogersville in May of 1976. God’s call for me to pastor this church was so definite that there was no way it could be ignored. That was over 40 years ago. I never anticipated God leaving me here so long, but He did, and I am truly grateful.

I grew up in central Illinois and then moved to Bolivar, Missouri to attend Southwest Baptist University in the fall of 1958 to the spring of 1960. Southwest Baptist was at that time only a junior college. However, while attending school in Bolivar, in 1959, I answered the call to preach. I later received my BS in Education from Southwest Missouri State College, which is now Missouri State University.

I had always known my calling was to be in bi-vocational ministry. The Apostle Paul was a tent making preacher, and I felt called to follow his example, not in tent making mind you, but in the idea of having an outside source of income so as not to burden the Church financially. I am now a retired public school administrator and am pleased my secular vocation opened up a tremendous mission field in which I could also serve. God has also blessed our Church with other dedicated staff who also serves bi-vocationally and have been a great joy and help to me as we reach and serve others for Christ.

I am continuously grateful for my wife, Phyllis, our two daughters, their husbands, and four grandchildren. My prayer for myself, my family, and Church family, is that we always remember and live by

Psalms 20: 7:

“Some trust in chariots, and some in horses; but we trust in the name of the Lord our God”

Doug Brown, Fragrance Free Pastor

I would like to take a few minutes of your time to introduce myself to you.  I was born in Springfield and lived there until the age of five, when my parents purchased a home in Rogersville.  So we loaded up and made the long journey to the big town of Rogersville (really only took about 30 min, and the town had less than 500 people.)

We tried a few of the churches in the surrounding area, but God showed us our home was Rogersville First Baptist.  God has done a lot in my life since the 1st time I walked in the doors of the church.  I was saved at a church camp, that I went to through the church, was baptized there, and there also met my wife, Jeni. I also had the great honor of baptizing my children, Jacob and Jessie, there after they accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and it was also there that God called me to preach and is now where God has me serving as the Fragrance Free Pastor.

God’s timing is always perfect. I may not always understand what God is doing, but as long as I keep my life open to His plan for me, He will never stop using me for His purpose.

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.   You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”   Jeremiah 29:11-13
